What Is SLS Free Toothpaste

SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate) is a chemical which is added to both shampoos and toothpastes. This chemical leads to the formation of the foam, making it easier for the individual to determine whether his teeth have been cleaned or not. What many people do not realize is that SLS is a chemical which is used in those products that are used to clean cars. The chemical is harsh and has harmful effects in the long run. The reason is simple- a chemical which cleans cars cannot possibly be gentle on your gums and teeth.

The solution is even simpler - use SLS free toothpaste.

There are times when people get painful mouth ulcers or their gums start bleeding but they do not know why. They blame it on anxiety, constipation, hormonal changes or consumption of certain vegetables. While it’s true that regular consumption of coffee and strawberries can lead to severe mouth ulcers, fact is that many a times, they are caused because of the high concentration of SLS in their toothpastes.

If your gums are very sensitive and you continue using the same toothpaste, chances are that they will start to bleed soon enough. Gingivitis is a gum disease which leads to the formation of a particular kind of bacteria in the mouth which releases toxins. These toxins in turn lead to irritation and sensitivity in the gums and the teeth. Your teeth will hurt and your gums will become inflamed. Apart from that, you will realize you have bad breath no matter how many mints you swallow. If you do not take care of this problem, a condition called periodontitis will develop.

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate is an active ingredient in all toothpastes. Many people throw away their toothpastes if they do not produce foam - that is how clueless they are. While in car wash products, SLS is necessary, fact is that there is no need for it to be included in oral hygiene products. Even if the foam is not produced, other ingredients will make sure that your teeth are cleaned adequately. Keeping these facts in mind, it does not seem like a very good idea to add SLS to toothpastes.

A few years ago, a study was carried out and the people targeted were those who complained about canker sores of mouth ulcers on a fairly regular basis. It was realized that these people brushed their teeth twice and thrice a day with common toothpastes that were high in SLS content.

When they were given SLS free toothpaste, a 60% sore reduction was found. This is what made experts realize that there is a very strong link between SLS toothpastes and mouth ulcers. The chemical was understood to be the common cause for irritation and soon came to be recognized as a skin irritant as well.
